Title: Using the Mouse to Study Neuronal Mechanisms With Relevance for Schizophrenia
The Kellendonk Lab at Columbia University is housed in the New York State Psychiatric Institute in the Department of Psychiatry and the Division of Molecular Therapeutics. The team explores the neural basis of neuropsychiatric disease in animal models. The lab uses genetic, pharmacologic, and circuit based approaches to investigate the positive, negative, and cognitive symptoms of schizophrenia. Today I will discuss the importance of thalamo-prefrontal cortex circuitry in regulation prefrontal cortex circuit maturation and cognitive behaviors as well as new attempts to study hallucinations (a positive symptom) in mice.
